Lesson 4 - I'd like to find out a little more about the Great Barrier Reef cruise...

Updated: Aug 31, 2019

In this lesson we will practice asking questions at the hotel information desk. This is useful when you are a hotel and want to book a tour.

For this lesson we will imagine that we are in Cairns, Australia.

I went there on my honeymoon in 2018. I went on three tours there: a helicopter ride over the great barrier reef, a boat trip to a famous beach with white sand called Whitehaven Beach, and an early morning trip in a hot air ballooning over the countryside.

If you don't know what kind of trip you want to go on, you can ask the staff at the information desk the following question:

> What tours do you have available?

If you already know what tour you want to go on, then you can say:

> I'd like a little bit more information about the Great Barrier Reef tour?

or

> I'm interested in going on the Great Barrier Reef tour. Could you tell me about it?

You can ask some of the following questions to get more details about a tour:

> What times does the tour start?

> How long does the tour last?

> How many times a day does the tour run?

> Where is the meeting place?

> How much does it cost?

> Does the tour run every day?

> How can I book it?

You can ask for some extra information:

> Do you have a leaflet about the tour?

If you want to go on the tour you can say:

> I want to book it now / I'd like to book it now

If you are not sure, you can say:

> Thanks for the information, I'll think about it

or

I'll talk to my husband about it. Thank you for the information

Example conversation

Tourist: I'm interested in going on the Great Barrier Reef cruise to Whitehaven beach. Could You tell me a little bit about it?

Staff: Sure. the tour leaves 3 times a day, and it is goes to the Heart Reef. You can take lots of photos from the ferry. It costs $100 per person.

What times does the tour start?

It leaves at 10 am, 1pm, and 4pm. The 10 am tour can get really crowded, though.

Ok, thanks. How long does the tour last?

It lasts for 2 and a half hours. There is a bus that leaves from the hotel to the port. It takes about 10 minutes.

Ok, I see.

Do you have any other questions?

Yes, do you have a leaflet or something?

Sure. Here you are.

Thanks for the information. I'll think about it.

Thank you.
