This lesson is about making an apology and accepting an apology.

You will practice saying sorry in various situations. We will practice saying sorry for small things like spilling a drink, and we will also practice saying sorry for big things like crashing your partner's car.

I'm sorry for = I apologise for

Apologise is usually used for more serious situations that sorry.

I'm sorry that I crashed your car = I'm sorry I crashed your car

Here are some example apologies:

> I'm really sorry for spilling my drink on you / I apologise for spilling my drink on you / I'm really sorry I spilled my drink on you

> I'm really sorry for being late / I apologise for being late / I'm really sorry I was late

> I'm really sorry I forgot to call you / I apologise for forgetting to call you / I'm really sorry I forgot to call you

> I'm really sorry for getting so angry / I apologise for getting so angry / I'm really sorry I got so angry

> I'm really sorry for stepping on your foot / I apologise for stepping on your foot / I'm really sorry I stepped on your foot

> I'm really sorry for cheating on you / I apologise for cheating on you / I'm really sorry I cheated on you

people often give reasons when they say sorry:

> I'm sorry for being late. The train was late

You can also say that you that your actions were unintentional:

> I apologise for that. I didn't mean to do it

> I apologise for hurting you. It wasn't on purpose

> I'm sorry that I forgot to call you. It wasn't on purpose

Now let's look at how to accept an apology.

The best way to accept an apology is to just be kind. You can say one of these phrases:

> Don't worry about it

> It's no big deal / It's not a big deal

> No worries
